Make Green Fair

Demonstrators in London hold banners and placards reading 'Fuel Poverty Action', 'Greenpeace' and 'secure green jobs'. Captions read 'cut energy bills' and '#MakeGreenFair'

If everyone had a fair share of renewable energy, we could all afford to pay our bills.

But profits, unfair regulations and waste mean ordinary people aren’t enjoying the benefits of energy that is cheap to produce. And the far right, funded by oil and gas firms, are taking advantage of this.

With another illegal war in the Middle East, our energy bills are set to rise. Trump says, “When oil prices go up, we make a lot of money”. That might be true for him and his mates in the oil corporations, but it doesn’t help the rest of us!

The absurdity is, renewable energy is actually becoming cheaper to produce! But the benefits of cheap, green energy aren’t being passed on to us.

That’s why we’ve launched #MakeGreenFair. We’ve sent an open letter to Ed Miliband, supported by 60 organisations including 350.org, End Fuel Poverty Coalition, Greenpeace and trade unions.

Now we need your support.

We’ve launched a petition, which has gained thousands of signatures already.

Stuart Bretherton, Lead Campaigner at FPA, hits the nail on the head:

“Without a guarantee that the benefits of clean energy will reach everyone, the transition risks repeating the mistakes of the past, where green policies disproportionately benefited wealthier households while others were left facing debt or higher costs.”

“If the energy transition is not fair, it risks deepening political division and fuelling misinformation about climate action.

“Meeting everyone’s essential needs should be the end goal of our energy system. Fair distribution of renewable energy makes this deliverable today, guaranteeing that we can all afford adequate heating, lighting, washing and cooking.”

You can read the open letter here.

It’s time to #MakeGreenFair.

The Energy Pricing Revolution

We are all entitled to energy for heating, washing, lighting, cooking, connectivity, and medical needs. Let’s get the money back from the fossil fuel giants who are profiting from our unpayable bills!
